It goes without saying that the story of the Bills safety’s recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. Should he be able to make a return to the field, it will mark the end of a chapter of his life and career that was both terrifying and inspiring at the same time.

The Bills are positive about Damar Hamlin’s return

If you missed it, back on January 2nd, the football was shocked when Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field and subsequently collapsed. We’re it not for the quick actions of medical staff, Hamlin who received CPR and an automated external defibrillation (AED) on the field, would likely not have survived. In the days and weeks that followed, many around the league and beyond came together in support of the 24-year-old. From donations to his charity, to countless well wishes, it was clear that Hamlin’s story had touched many. Since being released from UC Medical Center, he has made a number of public appearances including one of his team’s games as well as the Super Bowl.

Yet, the burning question has of course been if and when he would return to the field. Reports now indicate, that we have an answer to that question. Speaking on Hamlin’s situation, Bills general manager, Brandon Beane, spoke of the “remarkable improvement” that Hamlin has made, before adding that he is “dialed in” and has “every intention to play.” It is understood that Hamlin does in fact have further evaluations to undergo, however, things are “trending in the right direction.”

Will Damar Hamlin actually return?

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard talk of Hamlin’s progress and potential return. Just last month, the NFLPA’s medical director, Dr. Thom Mayer indicated he was certain Hamlin would return. “I guarantee you that Damar Hamlin will play professional football again,” he said at the time.

Of course, if we’re honest there is no guarantee that will actually be the case. What we can say at this time, is that Hamlin still has a way to go before playing becomes a possibility. Indeed, aside from the above-mentioned evaluations, he will ultimately have to speak with medical consultants, his family, his agents and of course his team, before a final decision on what’s best can be taken. For the moment, all we can do is wait and watch.
