As he prepares to take on a new challenge in the world of television, the people’s vote for GOAT opened up about his recent decision to say goodbye to the game, as well as what lies ahead with a new job on Fox Sports’ panel of NFL analysts.

Tom Brady discusses decision to retire

Just a few days ago, Tom Brady announced his decision to retire from football. It was the second time he’s done so in a year. You will recall that Brady announced his retirement one year ago to the day, bringing to an end an incredible career in which he won seven Super Bowl titles, set numerous records and without doubt established himself as the greatest quarterback ever to play football. Yet just shortly after he would walk back on his decision, returning to play one more season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This of course brings us back to the present, which the 43-year-old spoke about at length on Monday.

Speaking in an interview on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd.” Brady said the decision was made last week. “I think the finality of it was just last week,” he said. “You always kind of...I think the future is always very hard to predict for all of us. Nothing is really guaranteed. But I think you just take it day by day.”

What did Tom Brady say about the future?

While we mentioned his present, it was interesting to hear what Brady had to say about his future. Indeed, the former Patriots icon spoke openly about his enthusiasm for what comes next.

“As my friend tells me, the future happens a day at a time. I’m super excited. I really am. I think there’s a lot of great things ahead. I think you need to create space for those things, too. When one thing ends, naturally other opportunities present themselves,” Brady said. “You know, I don’t try to make predictions. Sometimes I’m really good with certainty and I think in this case, I’m good with a little bit of uncertainty even though I have some great opportunities in my professional life ahead. I’m really excited about those things.”

Could Tom Brady return again?

Though it really does feel like the writing is on the wall, there are those who aren’t convinced that we’ve seen the last of the NFL’s all-time passing yards leader. To be fair, if we consider last year’s reversal, it’s understandable. Yet, according to Brady the time has come.

“I think for me, I know in my heart how I feel,” he said. “I put it out on the field for 23 years and I’m super proud of what’s been accomplished. You know, I just wanted to keep last week really short and sweet and I felt like I’ve given a lot, I’ve gained a lot. I’ve learned a lot. And life is about, you know, exciting things ahead. I think when one thing closes, like football has for me, you know 32 years of my life and it’s hard to make decisions like that but it’s certainly the right time.”

When will Brady’s future with FOX Sports begin?

With recent rumblings suggesting that Tom Brady might be on Fox Sports’ broadcast of the Super Bowl, the league’s touchdown pass king, made it clear that he won’t be starting with the network until the “fall of 2024.” On the other hand, Brady did note that he will be starting his homework this Sunday coming, when the Super Bowl rolls around. With FOX’s No. 1 combo of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen in the booth, Brady admitted that he’d be taking notes. “I’ll be 50% watching the game, and 50% listening to those two,” Brady said.
