What did Tom Brady say about Travis Kelce’s argument with Andy Reid in Super Bowl LVIII
Super Bowl LVIII brought with it many moments of excitement and suspense, but there was one exchange in particular that definitely turned heads.
In a sport as intense as football and in a game as big as the Super Bowl, the pressure and the stakes are extremely high. Indeed it can lead to some losing their cool, but is that OK?
Tom Brady weighs in on Travis Kelce’s argument with Andy Reid
Of all of the talking points that occurred during Super Bowl LVIII, perhaps the most debated was that which occurred Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce and his head coach Andy Reid. Caught on camera screaming at his coach during the big game, many wondered what had caused the exchange and moreover what if anything would be done about it. Surely Kelce’s behavior was unacceptable and completely out of line. Right? Not so much according to seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady.
What did Tom Brady say?
Speaking on the latest episode of his “Let’s Go!” podcast, the former Patriots actually spoke in defense of Kelce, as he gave insight into how tense such moments can be. To be fair, few are better positioned than the legendary signal-caller to speak to such moments, having played in a record 10 Super Bowls. Of course, Brady also made the effort to commend Reid for the calm way in which he handled his player.
“There’s always little family issues,” Brady said. “I don’t mind seeing it, because I was a part of a lot of those things. Emotions are so high, you are definitely not centered and balanced. You’re not in a meditative state at that point. You are fully determined to go out there and to win. I think a lot of the things that are said during the games, people should just let them fly off their back. ...I actually think Coach Reid handled it just awesome, like he always does. He just said, ‘You know, I was a little off balance, and Travis is such a competitor.’ I love that, because it just speaks to his leadership ability. Some coaches would get so sensitive and, ‘Oh, you embarrassed me.’ You’re a competitor and you’re an athlete. You get out there and you have the credibility that Travis has and you’ve had that All-Pro experience and you’ve won Super Bowls”
Interestingly, Brady went on to use an example to make his point, that of former teammates Julian Edelman and Randy Moss, describing both as “players that would die to come off the field in those moments.” The now-retired 46-year-old continued by giving his opinion on what he believed was the basis of Kelce’s issue. “We didn’t want to take them off one play,” Brady said, “and they’re thinking, ‘If we’re going down, I’m going out here every play trying to contribute.’ That’s when your team needs you the most and that’s what, I think, Travis was trying to convey.” Ultimately, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl so as they say, ‘All is well that ends well.’ That said, one has to imagine that reports might be different this week where Kelce is concerned had they not.
