What do the initials ‘NKH’ and ‘ALH’ stand for on the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII jersey?
For the first time in history in Las Vegas, a Super Bowl was played without Norma Hunt being in attendance.
The Kansas City Chiefs became the eighth team to win back-to-back Super Bowls and won their third NFL championship in five years thanks to an overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday. And they paid tribute to a member of the Hunt family, the franchise’s owners, through a special patch on their jersey.
Who was Norma Knoebel Hunt?
Below the Super Bowl logo on the right-hand side, the Chiefs’ red jerseys included a football-shaped patch with the initials ‘NKH’ inside, referring to Norma Knoebel Hunt, who sadly passed away last June at the age of 85.
Hunt was the second wife of the team’s founder, the late Lamar Hunt, and the mother of current chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. Norma herself was a minority owner, but perhaps more significantly, a huge fan of the Chiefs and football in general.
To put her love for the sport into perspective, Hunt went to each and every one of the first 57 Super Bowls, the only woman to do so, according to the NFL, and Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas was the first ever championship game without her in attendance.

Founder Lamar Hunt also honoured on Chiefs jersey
On the left side of the jersey at the same level, there is circular white patch depicting an eagle covered by a large ‘A’, referring to the American Football League, which was founded by Lamar Hunt in 1959 and merged with the NFL in 1970.
Hunt’s initials, ‘LH’, are shown inside another football in smaller lettering just below.
As a result of winning the Super Bowl, the Chiefs will feature in the 2024 Kickoff Game on Thursday 5 September, although we don’t yet know who they will face. Next year, the Kansas City franchise will bid to became the first team in history to win three straight championship games.
