What do we know about DeAndre Hopkins’ visit with the Tennessee Titans?
As surprising as it may seem, the prolific wide receiver is still without a team to play for as he continues his tour, but it’s not for lack of trying on their part.
Previously one of the league’s best pass catchers, the former Cardinals star continues to pass his free agency in search of a team, however, following his latest team visit it would appear that search is set to continue.
The Tennessee Titans try to woo DeAndre Hopkins
It would appear that the Tennessee Titans have their hearts set on wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. According to reports, the team is currently in the process of trying to lure Hopkins to Nashville, however, it’s understood that the 31-year-old wideout left the Titans facility on Monday without actually sealing the deal. Indeed, following a session in which he reportedly spent several hours with both players and staff, Hopkins left without signing any contract. With that said, the visit is said to have gone very well.
This of course is the latest development in a string of team visits that has also included the Cowboys, Jets, and Lions to name a few. What’s interesting about this most recent turn of events is that unlike the others which ended with the teams declining to put pen to paper, the scenario in Tennessee was quite different, in that the Titans seemingly pulled out all of the stops in an effort to convince Hopkins. As per his post on social media, he was collected by a vehicle with a custom screen that read, “Welcome to Nashville DeAndre Hopkins.” That post was followed by one in which he could be seen in what appeared to be a suite at Nissan Stadium for CMA Fest. Tim McGraw who performed at the event was recorded and tagged in the post.
What’s the Titans’ WR situation?
To be fair, it’s an interesting one. On the one hand, the Titans do have Treylon Burks, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Kyle Philips in their receiver corps. On the other, the experience and insight of someone like Hopkins would be of great benefit to all of them. With that said, it’s clear that it will take more than showing him a nice time to convince him to sign any deal. Ultimately, a Hopkins to Tennessee move would be interesting, especially when considering the fact that running back Derrick Henry is on the roster. Indeed, one has to believe that with the addition of someone like Hopkins, the Titans could become a real threat in the AFC South.
So, what next for DeAndre Hopkins?
As previously reported, Hopkins is set to meet with the New England Patriots this week after what has been almost two weeks since he was cut by the Arizona Cardinals. There have of course been other names mentioned in connection with him such as the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs but there has been nothing official on those fronts. Where the Patriots specifically are concerned, it’s worth noting that head coach Bill Belichick stated that he’s unsure as to if the five-time Pro Bowler is actually going to visit, however, he admitted the franchise intends to speak with him. “We’re working through it, so I don’t really have anything to add to that,” Belichick said before explaining that it was not his responsibility. “It relates more to the logistics and things like that. I’m not a travel agent.”
