Patrick Mahomes already has a place in NFL history. Although the quarterback has a long career ahead of him, his achievements so far place him as one of the best of all time.

Mahomes began his sporting life in childhood, trying different disciplines: soccer, basketball, and baseball. He was so talented playing baseball that the Detroit Tigers even selected him, but he never signed a contract. After that, as a sophomore, he decided to focus on American football, thinking about making it to the NFL.

Patrick Mahomes attended Texas Tech, choosing the Red Raiders over Oklahoma State and Rice University. In college, he started setting records, being the player with the most passing yards in a game (734), and the most yards of total offense with 819. In three years in the NCAA, he played 32 games with 11, 252 yards.

What round pick was Patrick Mahomes?

The talented quarterback was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2017 Draft to replace Alex Smith. He agreed to a $16,42 million contract plus an extra $10 million for the signing.

We all know the rest of the story with the current NFL champions. He has won three Championship rings, the last one against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII in Vegas. Moreover, he holds other records such as:

  • The youngest player ever to win league MVP and the Super Bowl MVP in the same season
  • The highest passer rating in NFL history amongst people with 1,500 passing attempts
  • The fastest player to reach 20,000 career passing yards in only 67 games
