COWBOYS

What happened between Micah Parsons and Malik Hooker?

There’s been a bit of drama between the two Cowboys defenders this offseason as they exchanged some online banter we hope doesn’t translate on the field.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the team’s best players as well as one of the best defenders in the league. He also happens to have a podcast with Bleacher Report called “The Edge with Micah Parsons” and was recently promoted to president of its subsection, B/R Gridiron.

What did Malik Hooker say about Parsons and his podcast?

Parsons’ fellow defender, safety Malik Hooker, later offered some rather surprising unsolicited advice to Parsons about not letting his podcast distract him from the game of football. What’s even funnier about it is that Hooker made those comments on a podcast.

“My advice for Micah would be just make sure we’re all right,” Hooker said on the “All Facts No Brakes with Keyshawn Johnson” podcast. “Because if we’re at work and the run game’s terrible, but you’re doing a podcast every week and you know the run game is terrible, then what are you really caring about? Are you caring about the crowd that was watching the podcast or are you caring about the success of our team and the Super Bowl that we’re trying to reach?”

Parsons has given us no reason to believe he would allow the podcast to distract him from the game. In his three years with the Dallas Cowboys, he’s never missed a game, and has put up 213 tackles and 40.5 sacks. So he took to social media to hit back at Hooker and call him out for his comments.

“Just wish you said this to me but instead on some podcast! And you got my number family! @MalikHooker24 and you my locker mate!” Parsons said in a tweet that has since been deleted. “So you coulda said this any day! And you do realize I shoot the podcast on our off day! Why ain’t we talking about everyone preparations and focus.”

Former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant also took to social media to defend Parsons, calling out Hooker on not confronting Parsons and accusing him of just creating more drama by saying something in the first place.

Parsons, along with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, is currently waiting on the Cowboys to give him a contract extension. As one of the best defenders in the league, he has the leverage to ask for a hefty sum. The highest-paid defensive player in the league right now is 49ers’ Nick Bosa, who’s making $34 million a year.

Hopefully the Cowboys realize they need to pay and keep him, and hopefully, he and his teammate can keep the peace and get along. Otherwise, it will be real easy for Parsons to lose morale and for the Cowboys to lose one of their best players.
