What happened to Chuma Edoga? What injury does the Cowboys left tackle have?

When the Cowboys released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of their preseason game against the Rams last week, it was a bit curious to see that offensive tackle Chuma Edoga was listed as the starter ahead of first-round draft pick Tyler Guyton. However, it was expected that eventually the rookie would take that spot from Edoga as the better player.

That happened a tad bit sooner than expected.

Edoga injures toe, out into the regular season

During the Rams game, Edoga played the first series and Guyton came in during the second series. Edoga was meant to come back in again, but suffered an injury to his toe that kept him sidelined the rest of the game.

Now it seems that same injury, a broken toe, will keep him out for at least a month, and perhaps as long as six to eight weeks, well into the start of the regular season. Dallas Morning News reporter David Moore said that Edoga will not need surgery, but is likely to start the season on injured reserve. In that case, he would miss at least four games before being eligible to return.

Guyton will surely take over then at left tackle, but now the Cowboys must figure out how to replace Edoga on the depth chart. Behind Guyton and starting right tackle Terence Steele, the Cowboys have Asim Richards, Earl Bostick Jr., and Matt Waletzko.
