Super Bowl

What is the lowest scoring half in Super Bowl history? Has a team ever reached the halftime with 0 points?

Super Bowl LIX has seen the Philadelphia Eagles dominating the Kansas City Chiefs in the first half, but it’s not the lowest-scoring half in NFL history.

So far, Super Bowl LIX has seen the Philadelphia Eagles in control. The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been able to get anything going on offense as quarterback Patrick Mahomes was sacked three times and threw two interceptions in the second quarter.

The score at halftime was Eagles 24, Chiefs 0.

It’s not exactly a low-scoring game, thanks to the Eagles, but it’s definitely a one-sided one. Still, it’s not the only time a team has failed to score any points in the first half of a Super Bowl game.

Lowest-scoring half in Super Bowl history

The lowest-scoring half in Super Bowl history happened in 1976, when the Pittsburgh Steelers played the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IX. At the end of their first half, the score was just 2-0 due to a safety scored by the Steelers' fullback Franco Harris.

The game ended up being a pretty low-scoring one as well, ending with a Steelers victory, 16-6 over the Vikings. It was the third-lowest overall score in Super Bowl history.

The lowest-scoring Super Bowl was in 2019, when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams, 13-3. It was Tom Brady’s final Super Bowl victory with the Pats, but it was the defense who won that game for them. The same could be said for the Eagles and Chiefs, if the Chiefs offense don’t get something going for a comeback in the second half.
