What record did Miami Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill set and what other record is he set to break?

The Dolphins’ pass catcher was already among the best we’ve seen ahead of the 2023-24 season. Now, he’s approaching truly legendary status.

The Dolphins’ pass catcher was already among the best we’ve seen ahead of the 2023-24 season. Now, he’s approaching truly legendary status.

It would appear that the former Kansas City Chiefs star is a man of his word, having previously promised to become the first player in NFL history to register 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. Indeed, he now stands on the verge of doing just that.

Tyreek Hill breaks another NFL record on historic NFL path

As mentioned before, it was back in August when Miami Dolphins All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill made a bold promise. To be clear, it’s not that we didn’t believe Hill when he stated the mark he intended to make, it’s just few could have imagined that he’d follow through so quickly.

To be clear, Hill has posted the most receiving yards over the first 11 games of a season in the Super Bowl era - since 1966 - with a staggering 1,324 yards as we enter Week 13 following a massive performance against the Washington Commanders in a 45-15 Dolphins win. What that means is that he’s currently on track to break Calvin Johnson’s single-season receiving yards record of 1,964 and thereby make good on his pre-season promise. Incidentally, Hill’s contribution on Sunday actually set another NFL record for games with more than 150 receiving yards. Indeed, with a total of 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns - 78 yards and 60 yards respectively - on five receptions, Hill posted his fifth game with more than 150 yards and at least one touchdown for the 2023 season, and with that broke the NFL’s single-season record for the most such games. Below you can see the five players who were previously tied for the record:

Incredibly, there is more to it as well in that Hill also set a Dolphins single-season record during the win on Sunday. The Super Bowl winner now has posted eight games in which he registered more than 100 yards this season, tying the Miami single-season record of eight set by Mark Duper in 1986. Given that he’s still got five games left to play in the regular season, something tells us we’ll have a new record by the time it’s all over. Quite frankly, unless his campaign is halted by injury - knock on wood - we can’t see it ending any other way than Tyreek Hill writing his name in the NFL’s history books.
