Deebo Samuel has found a new home. The 29-year-old wide receiver requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers, and the California franchise granted his wish. Now, the South Carolina alum will suit up for the Washington Commanders, marking a fresh chapter in his NFL career.

According to a report by The Athletic, the Washington Commanders traded a fifth-round NFL Draft pick to secure the rights to Deebo Samuel. The deal will become official with the start of 2025 League Year and Free Agency signing period at 4:00 p.m. EST on March 12.

Samuel’s $21.7 million base salary presents a significant financial impact for Washington, especially given that he’s coming off the worst season of his career - registering just 806 yards and four touchdowns from scrimmage.

Deebo Samuel’s figures with the 49ers

Over six seasons with San Francisco, Samuel amassed 334 receptions for 4,792 yards and 22 receiving touchdowns. His versatility was also on display as a rusher, logging 202 carries for 1,143 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.

Now joining the Commanders, Samuel will team up with seasoned wide receiver Terry McLaurin, creating one of the most exciting receiving corps in the NFL. This duo promises to bring an electrifying dynamic to Washington’s offense.

The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly open to trading wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, just a year after signing him to a four-year, $120 million extension. According to NFL Network, the team is considering moving Aiyuk ahead of the 2025 season as part of potential roster changes. This decision comes despite the challenges they faced during his contract negotiations last year.
