It’s now been a few weeks, since the terrible scenes that we all witnessed during the Bengals vs Bills game, when Buffalo’s safety, Damar Hamlin collapsed on the ground after suffering a cardiac arrest. Now back home with family and friends, the Bills player faces a long road to recovery.

Damar Hamlin faces lengthy layoff for recovery

According to a statement from a spokesperson for Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety now faces a long recovery period following the events of a January 2nd game between his team and the Cincinnati Bengals. During the contest, Hamlin collapsed following a tackle and had to be resuscitated by emergency medical personnel, before being taken to the hospital where it was determined that he had suffered a cardiac arrest. Hamlin then spent five days in a Cincinnati hospital, but was finally released after doctors concluded that his condition had greatly improved i.e., he was able to walk and breathe unassisted. Doctors also disclosed that the 24-year-old displayed no signs of neurological damage.

“Despite being out of the hospital, Damar still has a lengthy recovery,” Hamlin’s marketing representative, Jordan Rooney said. “Damar still requires oxygen and is having his heart monitored regularly. He has visited with the team a few times but he still gets winded very easily. ...He’s upbeat and positive and ready to continue to overcome this.

The Bills back Damar Hamlin

Earlier this week Bills head coach Sean McDermott spoke about the need for Hamiln to take a “baby step at a time,” before adding that he “was dipping his toe back in here and getting on the road to just getting back to himself.” Indeed, it is understood that Hamlin has made several visits to the team’s facility since he was released from hospital. With the Bills preparing to face the said same Bengals in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday, one can imagine that it’s a good thing for both him and his teammates.
