When exactly did the Rams’ OBJ tear his ACL last season?
If his account of events is true then it would make his achievements last season nothing short of incredible.
The star wide receiver shed some light on his struggles the last season with his problematic knee and it seems it was worse than first thought.
Odell Beckham Jr. still has a knee problem
With NFL training camps now less than a month away, we are starting to get a better look at who’s in and who’s out, but some players don’t even have a team. Star wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is one such player as he continues to search for a team. Yet that’s not the only problem the former Los Angeles Rams player faces. Fans will recall that OBJ was forced off the field during the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI win over the Cincinnati Bengals back in February with what appeared to be a torn ACL, an injury that he’s still recovering from. The curious thing, however, is that according to his comments on Saturday, OBJ actually tore the ACL before and was playing through it right up until the Super Bowl. To be clear OBJ is expected to miss several games of the upcoming season as a result of the injury.

What really happened with OBJ’s knee?
What’s interesting here is the chronology of events. Back in April it was reported by the NFL Network that OBJ’s most recent operation was performed in an effort to correct a “previously bad” surgery which followed a tear in his ACL when he was still playing with the Cleveland Browns. The report even went on to indicate that it could in fact extend Beckham’s career. With that in mind, it stands to reason that if as he claims he didn’t tear his ACL in the Super Bowl, then just what did he do to his knee such that he had to leave the field of play during the biggest game of the season?

Assuming OBJ’s account of events is accurate, then it’s nothing short of incredible what he was able to achieve last season after moving to the Rams from the Browns. Initially, his numbers weren’t stellar as he caught just 27 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns in eight regular-season games played for the Rams. On the other hand, when the post season arrived OBJ switched on. In the four games he played he caught, he caught 25 passes for 316 yards and two touchdowns, culminating of course with two catches for 52 yards and a touchdown in the Super Bowl before his knee injury sidelined him. Ultimately, though intriguing the scenario does nothing to change the fact that having had an operation in late February OBJ won’t be present on opening day of the 2022-23 season. The question that remains, however, is what jersey will he be wearing when he does return? The Rams for their part have made it clear that they would like to re-sign him, but for the moment there has been no concrete deal so we can only wait and watch.
