When was the last time the San Francisco 49ers made it to the Super Bowl?
A 31-34 win over Detroit Lions on Sunday secured a berth for the 49ers in the Allegiant Stadium LVIII Super Bowl final on 11 February.

The game in Las Vegas sees the Chiefs with the chance to secure a third title in five seasons, a feat that would cement them as the NFL’s newest dynasty and also make them the first team to repeat as Super Bowl champions since the New England Patriots in 2005.
Standing in their way is a dogged 49ers side who had to dig deep in the second half at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday to deprive Detroit Lions of progressing to what would have been their first ever Super Bowl final appearance.

49ers Super Bowl history
The 49ers now have the chance to win their first title since 1994 when they were led by the father of today’s coach, Kyle Shanahan, Mike Shanahan.

In total the San Francisco team have made it to the final on seven occasions, recording five wins and suffering two defeats. Their last two showings ended up in disappointment for the 49ers as they fell to Baltimore in 2103 and the Chiefs in 2020. On that Miami Sunday in February, the Chiefs were crowned NFL champions for the second time in the franchise’s history beating the 49ers by a 31-20 scoreline.
