After missing all of last season through injury, Aaron Rodgers now knows the date of his return to NFL action with the New York Jets. The quarterback is set to make a prime time comeback for the men from the Big Apple, in a Monday Night Football clash against Super Bowl LVIII runners-up the San Francisco 49ers.
When is the Jets vs the 49ers in 2024 Week 1?
Ahead of Wednesday’s release of the full 2024 NFL regular-season schedule, the league has already announced the date and time of certain fixtures to be played next term. Among the games confirmed in advance of the big reveal is the Jets’ Week 1 trip to California to face the 49ers, which is to take place on Monday 9 September.
Jets boss Saleh faces former team
In addition to Rodgers’ return to NFL action, the Jets vs 49ers match-up will see New York head coach Robert Saleh return to Levi’s Stadium. Salah spent four years as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator, helping the Californians to reach Super Bowl LIV, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
With Rodgers now recovered, Saleh is aiming to see the Jets bounce back from their negative record last season (7-10). The franchise had one of the best defences in the league last year - so with Rodgers pulling the strings offensively, they’re looking to be competitive once more in the AFC.
What is Rodgers’ regular-season record against the 49ers?
Although Rodgers has never been able to beat the 49ers in the Playoffs, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback has a dominant record over San Francisco when it comes to non-postseason games.
The 40-year-old is 6-3 in regular season clashes against the five-time Super Bowl champions. Most recently, he led Green Bay to a 30-28 win over the Niners in September 2021, throwing for 261 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and a passer rating of 113.3.
After that duel, Rodgers and the Packers faced San Francisco in the 2021 season’s NFC Divisional Round in January 2022, with the 49ers winning 13-10.
