Russell Wilson is not just breathing Mile High air after an offseason change of scenery from Seattle to Denver. Wilson now has a Mile High bank account after agreeing to a contract extension with the Broncos.
Future looks bright for Wilson and Broncos
Signing the Super Bowl XLVIII champion was priority number one for the Broncos management as soon as the deal went down earlier this offseason. The Broncos got their man long term, and Wilson got one of the richest deals in NFL history.
Wilson had two years remaining on the contract that he signed with the Seahawks, but the five year extension will keep him in Denver until 2028. The deal is worth $245 million dollars with a guaranteed $165 million. The nine-time Pro Bowler will make an average of $49 million dollars a year with the extension. Before that deal kicks in, he will make $24 million this year, and $27 million next year.
Watson has $230 million guaranteed
The contract puts him around the top of almost every statistical category possible when it comes to NFL contracts. Quarterbacks are the best payed players in the game, because of how important the position is to a team.
When it comes to total guaranteed money, Wilson sits only behind Cleveland’s suspended quarterback Deshaun Watson and Arizona gun slinger Kyler Murray. After Wilson there is four time MVP Aaron Rodgers, and leading MVP candidate for this year, according to the sports books, Josh Allen.
