Update:

We’re three weeks into the NFL season and six teams remain undefeated. While it’s still early in the season, historically, 3-0 teams have quite a high chance at making it to the postseason, with 74-75% of those teams reaching the playoffs since 1970 and 2002.

Last week, there were ten undefeated teams, but the Cincinnati Bengals, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, and Green Bay Packers suffered their first loss of the season in Week 3.

Undefeated NFL teams after Week 3

Heading into Week 4 of the NFL, we now have just six teams left without any losses:

  • Buffalo Bills
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Los Angeles Chargers
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • San Francisco 49ers

Perhaps the most surprising of this group is the Colts. They are off to their best start in 16 years after a blowout win over the Tennessee Titans this week. Led by quarterback Daniel Jones and star running back Jonathan Taylor, the Colts have scored a franchise-record 103 points through three games, surpassing even Peyton Manning–era totals.

The 49ers are also a bit surprising due to the sole fact that they’re dealing with so many significant injuries, including quarterback Brock Purdy and now defensive star Nick Bosa, who left their narrow win over the Cardinals with an injury on Sunday. It’s difficult to know how long they can keep this streak up until they get some of their stars back on the field.

The Buccaneers are 3-0 for the first time in 20 years after a dramatic 29-27 win over the Jets in their home opener. Despite penalties, injuries, and a controversial replay review, the Bucs pulled through thanks to another late-game drive from Baker Mayfield, capped by Chase McLaughlin’s 36-yard game-winning field goal as time expired. The Jets briefly took the lead with under two minutes left after blocking a field goal and returning it for a touchdown, but Mayfield once again delivered in the clutch, just as he had in Weeks 1 and 2.

Let’s take a look at the upcoming opponents for these six teams.

Next up for the 3-0 teams:

  • Buffalo Bills vs New Orleans Saints - Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
  • Indianapolis Colts @ Los Angeles Rams - Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET
  • Los Angeles Chargers @ New York Giants - Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
  • Philadelphia Eagles @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sunday, 1 p.m. ET
  • San Francisco 49ers vs Jacksonville Jaguars - Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET

As we can see, at least one of these teams pretty much has to lose next week - either the Eagles or the Bucs. I suppose a tie is possible, but it’s highly unlikely. The Eagles have struggled against Tampa in recent years, going 1-4 against them since 2021, including two playoff losses. Despite that and the Bucs’ 3-0 start, the Eagles are three-point road favorites, backed by Jalen Hurts’ 17-0 record in his last 17 full starts. Still, Tampa coach Todd Bowles has a track record of limiting Hurts, setting the stage for another hard-fought matchup.

In the other games, the Bills, Chargers, and 49ers, and Colts are all predicted to beat their opponents.
