Though it’s clear that the NFL is by far the most watched sports league in the U.S.A., it doesn’t change the fact that ticket prices for games are expensive.

When the NFL moved to a 17-game schedule, it allowed some teams to have nine home games for the first time. With that, you would think that with an increased amount of games - supply - there would be a decreased amount of bums in seats - demand. Yet, that’s not been the case, as evidenced by ticket prices continuing to rise.

Ticket prices in the NFL

As mentioned before, the NFL is as popular as it gets when it comes to professional sports in the United States. Until this year, the average ticket price to see any of the 32 teams in the league started at more than $100. Here in 2023, however, the average cost of an NFL ticket is more than $100 higher than what it was in 2022. “The demand has never been higher,” TicketSmarter CEO Jeff Goodman said. “It’s crazy.” So, what do tickets cost in the NFL today?

The average price of a 2023 NFL ticket is $377, according to TicketSmarter data. Needless to say, that is a significant jump from last season’s average which stood at approximately $235. As the prices climb from the primary market, as well, [on] the secondary market, attendance is still outstanding,” Goodman said. “Going in person, there’s just something about it.” Regardless of where you stand on that, we haven’t even touched on who has the most expensive tickets in the league. That honor belongs to the Las Vegas Raiders, who have an average cost of entry of $582. Close behind them are the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs with an average ticket price of $578, and then there is the team that they beat to clinch the title, the Philadelphia Eagles who come in at $559. With that, here’s a look at the top 5 most expensive ticket price averages in the NFL:

  • Dallas Cowboys: $545
  • New England Patriots: $534

Are there cheap tickets for NFL games?

Yes, there are. The important thing to remember here is the term ‘average.’ That’s not to say tickets won’t cost you a pretty penny, but yes there are in fact lower priced options than just the average. If you are wondering who has the lowest average ticket cost, that would be the Atlanta Falcons who come in at $225. Nonetheless, if you’d like to look at the cheaper possibilities, then we’re talking about teams such as the Houston Texans who have the cheapest tickets in the league at $49. They are followed by the Atlanta Falcons at $54 and the Arizona Cardinals at $59.

How are NFL ticket prices set?

To be honest, there are a myriad of factors in play, but the most central of them is the matchup itself. While that can be based on standings, current form, and head-to-head, the reality is that some teams have more history, bigger fanbases, or simply a player who enjoys nationwide love. These are just a few examples of things that can drive ticket prices up. “Teams that have historically been a strong brand in the NFL tend to drive prices,” Goodman said.
