Who are the NFL’s top quarterbacks according to coaches and executives?

The Athletic’s Mike Sando has published his annual survey on Quarterback Tiers and the results put Aaron Rodgers at the tip-top of the chart.

The Athletic’s Mike Sando puts out a survey each year in which he gathers the opinions of 50 NFL coaches and executives to see where they rank the NFL quarterbacks. The voters include six general managers, eight head coaches, 10 evaluators, 12 coordinators, six quarterback coaches, seven executives, and four members of the team’s personnel department.

In its ninth year, the full 2022 Quarterback Tiers has been released and includes all veteran quarterbacks. The rookies are not included, as they’ve yet to play in any NFL games in which they could be fairly judged.

How do the tiers work?

35 veteran quarterbacks were placed into five tiers. Tier 1 is the best and Tier 5 is the worst. They are ranked based on average vote and placed into tiers by vote distribution.

Aaron Rodgers the no. 1 top tier quarterback in the NFL

Even though Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ stats don’t show it, the four-time MVP is the best quarterback in the league, according to this survey. Though he’s only won one Super Bowl in his career so far (in 2010), Rodgers led the league in passer rating, touchdown percentage, and interception percentage in both 2020 and 2021, when he won his third and fourth MVP titles. He’s the no. 1 all-time leader in touchdown-to-interception ratio, by a lot. Rodgers has made it to the top of the list in this survey eight times in nine years and it’s the sixth time that the vote was unanimous.

In the Athletic’s published survey, they quote an unnamed offensive coordinator saying this about Aaron Rodgers:

(Tom) Brady has had the more decorated career with 10 Super Bowls and seven rings, but I will say this - Aaron Rodgers has helped elevate every player on that offense. Brady with N’Keal Harry did not elevate his game. Aaron has had Davante Adams, but he is still waiting for a first-round receiver, they have not had great receivers overall and he is still putting up major numbers.”
