Who is Anitta, the headline act at the NFL halftime show in Brazil?

The NFL has become international during the past few years - some games are scheduled outside of the US and this year, fans in Brazil, Germany and London will be able to enjoy their favorite teams.

Brazil will host the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles, in doing so, becoming the first country in South America to host an official NFL game. Unlike other games this season, this one will feature a halftime show with Brazilian singer-songwriter Anitta will be the headliner.

The NFL confirmed Tuesday that the singer will headline the halftime show at Corinthians Arena. “As a global and Brazilian superstar, Anitta will perform some of her most popular hits for fans to celebrate the historic kickoff weekend of the 2024 NFL regular season,” the league shared in a statement.

Anitta on performing at the halftime show: “It means everything”

The Envolver singer shared her excitement at being considered to perform: “Growing up in Brazil has completely shaped my journey as an artist and, of course, as a person,” she said.

“It means everything to be able to perform in São Paulo at the first NFL game in Brazil, where I can bring the excitement and joy of our incredible culture to fans around the world. It’s truly a dream come true to be a part of this moment”.

Meanwhile NFL Director of Game Events and Presentation Tim Tubito said in a statement “We are thrilled to welcome global sensation Anitta and a host of Brazil’s top artists to this historic event, promising fans and viewers around the world an unforgettable celebration of culture and entertainment”.

In addition to Anitta, other Brazilian stars will be performing. Brazilian electronic music artist CAROLA will perform at the pre-match show. Meanwhile, Brazilian pop sensation Luísa Sonza will perform the country’s national anthem, Hino Nacional Brasileiro, and Zeeba will perform the United States national anthem.

Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1993, Anitta released her first single Proposta in 2012. She signed a major deal with Warner Bros the following year and has since released seven studio albums, singing in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.

Her biggest hit was 2021′s Envolver, the opening track on her Versions Of Me album which has racked up almost 650,000 streams on Spotify. She performed at the 2016 Summer Olympics opening ceremony along with legendary Brazilian musicians Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil.

The game between the Green Bay Packers and the Philadelphia Eagles is scheduled to take place on Friday 6 September at 9:15 p.m. local time (8:15 p.m. ET / 5:15 p.m. PT) at Corinthians Arena.

Fans in the United States can watch the game and highlights from the halftime show on NBC Peacock. The full performance will also be available after the game on the NFL's official YouTube channel.
