The Kansas City Chiefs lifted their fourth Super Bowl title in 2024 - their third in five seasons and they continued this incredible run in Las Vegas at Super Bowl LVIII, with some even using the word ‘dynasty’ as they beat the San Francisco 49ers.

Reaching the Super Bowl for the second consecutive year is already quite an achievement, as, of course, was winning it. Only seven teams have won back-to-back titles and Kansas City became the ninth to attempt the feat. Much of the franchise’s success has been down to head coach Andy Reid and the big names in his roster - Patrick Mahomes, Trent McDuffie, Travis Kelce... but someone else had been equally as influential working behind the scenes as the driving force for the Chiefs’ meteoric rise: team owner Clark Hunt.

Who is Clark Hunt?

Clark Hunt, son of Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt is an American businessman, and best known for being the primary owner, Chairman, and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs. He is the grandson of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt, who is believed to have inspired the fictional J.R. Ewing character in American TV series Dallas.

The 58-year-old took over as the Chief’s CEO in 2010 and the team has since earned seven AFC West Division championships and made nine playoff appearances. Under his leadership, the Chiefs claimed two consecutive AFC championships following the 2019 and 2020 seasons and earned consecutive Super Bowl appearances for the first time in franchise history, winning the Championship against the San Francisco 49ers in 2020.

Hunt, who started his career working as an investment banker with Goldman Sachs after earning a degree in business administration, was also a founding investor-owner in Major League Soccer.

Clark and his father founded the Kansas City Wizards, owning the team until they sold it in 2006. He currently owns FC Dallas.

What’s Clark Hunt’s net worth?

Hunt, a pivotal member of the Chiefs for over two decades, is worth an estimated $2 billion. The Hunt family meanwhile own assets in energy, multiple real estate investments in Kansas City and Texas and sports-related ventures (the Chiefs and a minority stake in the NBA franchise the Chicago Bulls) reported to be worth around $20.5 billion according to Forbes most recent calculations.

The Chiefs’ current owner inherited his wealth after his grandfather earned a fortune in the Texas oil fields. After quite a few acquisitions, he also owned the majority of the East Texas Oil Field, being considered the richest person in the United States in 1948. H.L. Hunt became one of the wealthiest people in the world, with a net worth equivalent to $2.1 – $3.7 billion in today’s dollars.
