Who is Dalvin Cook, the Dallas Cowboys’ new signing?
Dalvin Cook will join a group of running backs that includes Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and fullback Hunter Luepke.
The Dallas Cowboys have signed veteran running back Dalvin Cook just one day after finalizing the 53-player roster that they will start the 2024 regular season with. The four-time Pro Bowler’s representatives revealed the information to NFL Network.
Dallas’ practice squad taking shape
Cook worked out with the Cowboys on Tuesday and is expected to be part of the team’s 16-man practice squad. The running back is coming off a season in which he played for the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens. With the AFC East team, he saw regular season action but was released in January.
The AFC North franchise took advantage and signed him for the postseason and gave him action in the Divisional Round game against the Houston Texans.
Cook’s arrival in Dallas has a nostalgic feel to it. The running back will be reunited with Mike Zimmer, who was his head coach from 2017-21 when both were with the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Zimmer is the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator. During those five seasons, the Florida State graduate generated 4,820 yards and 39 touchdowns on the ground with 1,499 and three scores through the air.
The Cowboys running backs
Last season with the Jets, he averaged less than six touches per game before signing with the Ravens. Wearing the No.31, he made one appearance for the team, running for 23 yards on eight carries in the 34-10 win against the Houston Texans in the Divisional playoffs.
Cook will join a group of running backs that includes Ezekiel Elliott, Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and fullback Hunter Luepke. The former Vikings player is likely to be one of the most active members once he leaves the practice squad.
The Cowboys start the 2024 NFL season on the road at the Cleveland Browns on Sunday 8 September with the game kicking off at 3.25 p.m ET / 12.25 p.m PT.
