The Indianapolis Colts are a team that seems to have done well at the NFL Draft, with their rookies coming up with very promising performances during training camp. One player that has been turning heads is Drew Ogletree.

The tight end doesn’t look like a rookie, with his sturdy 6′5″, 261-lb. physique, and he doesn’t move on the field like one either. The Youngstown State alum has been standing out because of his ability to make play after play.

Ogletree: Tight end plus wide receiver

Ogletree was a surprise choice by the Colts as the 13th pick in the sixth round, but he has been proving his worth and moving up the depth chart. One big advantage that he has that goes over and above his size is that he played as a wide receiver for four years in college.

This experience makes him a force to contend with in offense. Though he has the physical proportions to be a solid tight end, he also has the fluidity and skill of an effective wide receiver.

The 24-year-old has faced some struggles on his way to the NFL. He started his college life at the University of Findlay where he stayed until his junior year, when he needed to have some rehabilitation done on his knee.

He wanted to move from being a wide receiver to a tight end as he knew he had the size potential for it, but the team had no coach for this position. He transferred to Youngstown where he worked on bulking up by way of diet and workouts.

After a strong start at NFL training camp, Ogletree’s development in a position where he is only on his second year will be worth watching.
