Kirk Cousins, who is set to start under centre today in the Atlanta Falcons’ Monday Night Football clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, has been married to his wife, Julie Hampton, since June 2014.

Just over a year and a half earlier, Cousins had proposed to Hampton at the Capitol building in Washington D.C., where the quarterback played for the Commanders at the time.

“I talked to my U.S. congressman from my home area in west Michigan, Bill Huizenga, who I had gotten to know a little bit,” Cousins told the Washington Post in 2013. “I called him to see if I could propose on the balcony of the Speaker of the House’s office, because I had been there before and seen the view and thought it was a great view. He said they could set it up.”

Cousins and Hampton have two sons together: Cooper, born in September 2017, and Turner, born in March 2019.

Who is Julie Hampton?

A graduate of the University of Georgia, per People magazine, Hampton was previously an elementary school teacher, according to Pro Football Network. Now, however, she runs a charity, the Julie & Kirk Cousins Foundation, together with her husband. “Julie and I are passionate about generosity and using what we have been given to impact the world around us,” Cousins says on the foundation’s website.

The couple also own the Clearbrook Golf Course in Saugatuck, Michigan, having purchased the club in 2022, according to the Holland Sentinel.

Hampton featured in the 2023 Netflix docuseries Quarterback, which chronicled the lives of three NFL quarterbacks - Cousins, Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota - both on and off the football field. She has also appeared alongside Cousins in TV commercials.

Can Cousins and Falcons bounce back from Week 1 defeat?

Cousins, who joined the Falcons on a four-year, $180 million contract in March, endured a disappointing debut for Atlanta last week, throwing for 155 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions as the Georgians went down 18-10 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 36-year-old had not featured at all for his new team in preseason, as he completed his recovery from a serious Achilles injury. The issue forced him to miss much of the 2023 season, the last in a six-year spell with the Minnesota Vikings.
