Update:

Tonight’s workouts at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine featured a quarterback class that wasn’t expected to overwhelm anyone. With Fernando Mendoza, the projected No. 1 overall pick, sitting out workouts, the rest of the hierarchy was up for grabs.

Enter Taylen Green, the 6′6″ quarterback out of University of Arkansas and former Boise State standout, who turned in a historic performance that ignited buzz across draft circles.

From Boise State to the Combine record books: This is Taylen Green

Green not only stood out. He actually set new benchmarks for signal-caller athleticism this Combine weekend, rewriting the quarterback vertical jump and broad jump records previously held by Anthony Richardson.

At 227 pounds, he soared for a 43.5-inch vertical leap, which eclipse Richardson’s 40.5-inch mark from the 2023 Combine, and followed it up with an 11-foot-2 broad jump, smashing the former broad jump record as well.

The measurables were almost as impressive as the buzz itself. Green also clocked an unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash, an elite time for any prospect, let alone a quarterback with his size.

That combination of size, explosion and straight-line speed has draft evaluators and fans projecting him far differently than expected just hours earlier, sparking comparisons to rare athletes such as Taysom Hill, not as a perfect playing projection, but as a rare physical profile.

Green’s football journey began at Lewisville High School in Texas, where he was a dynamic dual-threat quarterback with over 2,000 passing yards and significant rushing production as a junior, numbers that helped him earn a scholarship to Boise State.

After playing three seasons with the Broncos, he entered the transfer portal following the 2023 season and landed with the Razorbacks of the SEC, where he continued to put up big numbers. In 2025, Green completed 60.7% of his passes with 2,714 yards and 19 touchdowns, while rushing for 777 yards and eight more scores.

Throughout his college career, he amassed nearly 10,000 yards of total offense and 94 total touchdowns across four seasons, combining volume striking ability with impact plays on the ground.

Combine measurables that defy the QB template

Quarterbacks aren’t typically measured like skill-position prospects, but Green’s numbers demand attention:

  • 43.5-inch vertical jump - a new QB record
  • 11-foot-2 broad jump - another QB record
  • ~4.37-second 40-yard dash - elite speed for a 6′6″ athlete

Before the Combine, most projections slotted Green as a possible mid- to late-round developmental quarterback, someone teams might target as a project with upside. Some draft models had him as late as the sixth round. But a performance this dramatic changes the narrative. Evaluators draft not just for what players have done, but also what they could become, and measurables like Green’s offer tantalizing tools.

That’s not to say Green is suddenly a first-round lock. Far from it. Scouts have consistently pointed to the need for growth in decision-making, accuracy and processing, traits that won’t show up on vert or 40 times. But the Combine has given teams a reason to look his way.

Evaluators will now want to see how Green performs in positional drills, passing sessions and interviews, moments that better reveal a quarterback’s football IQ and mechanics.
