Who is the Seattle Seahawks offensive tackle Jason Peters the NFL’s new oldest active player?

At 3-1 on the season so far, the Seattle Seahawks are looking good which is why it’s probably not the worst time to reinforce the roster as the team looks to consolidate its impressive start to the campaign. With that, a new acquisition has been made, and one that is quite curious given his age.

Jason Peters is the oldest head on the block

Football isn’t typically a sport associated with longevity - QBs fair somewhat better - given the brutal nature of the sport. That said, some have managed to play for many years such as the New York Jets’ star signal caller Aaron Rodgers who has played a staggering 20 seasons in the NFL. Indeed, the four-time MVP has for some time been the oldest active player in the league. That is, until now.

According to reports on Tuesday, the Seattle Seahawks re-signed offensive tackle Jason Peters after he played for them during the 2023 season. Impressively, Peters is now officially the oldest active NFL player this season at the ripe old age of 42 years old. For context, the previously mentioned Rodgers was the league’s oldest player. He will celebrate his 41st birthday on December 2nd.

It’s also worth noting that Peters is the only remaining player from the 2004 NFL draft, a year in which he actually went undrafted but was later signed by the Buffalo Bills. If you’re wondering about who else was in that year’s NFL Draft, it featured some big names such as Eli Manning, Larry Fitzgerald, Phillip Rivers, and Ben Roethlisberger.

As things stand, this will be Peters’ 21st season in the league. Where his journey is concerned, the former Arkansas Razorback spent the large majority of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles where he played for 11 seasons. Indeed, Peters was even part of the Eagles team that won Super Bowl LII. As for what lies ahead, it’s understood that Peters will join the practice squad for the time being though it’s likely that may change as the team was recently forced to place offensive tackle George Fant on the injured reserve.
