Who should I start in Fantasy Football? NFL Week 4 roster recommendations by position
Tomorrow begins another week of NFL football and that means it’s time to set those fantasy lineups again. Here’s our recommended picks for Week 4.

We’re heading into Week 4 of the NFL season, which is an important week for fantasy football. It was a wild Week 3 full of more surprises and injuries that will contribute to potential lineup changes on your fantasy roster. The new week kicks off tomorrow night with an NFC East battle between the 1-2 Dallas Cowboys and the 1-2 New York Giants, so you’ll need to get those lineups set for that.
Here are our recommendations for starters (the less obvious ones because you already know to start Patrick Mahomes and Breece Hall) for Week 4 of fantasy football.
NFL Week 4 Fantasy Football roster recommendations by position
Quarterbacks
- C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
- Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
- Caleb Williams, Chicago Bears
- Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Despite the Texans’ offensive woes and poor performance in Week 3 and C.J. Stroud’s less than impressive performance against the Vikings, he is still averaging 14.25 points a game and will be looking for a rebound against the Jaguars, who have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks.
The 49ers opponent, the Patriots, is a great matchup for Brock Purdy. The Niners have been struggling on offense, but Purdy’s aggressive downfield play should still work well against the Pats defense.

“I thought this was a statement game for Brock Purdy because they say he can’t do it without his weapons… He threw for almost 300 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and ran the ball for 41 yards. He’s a good… pic.twitter.com/qOkHXrxS1Z
Rookie Caleb Williams didn’t get off to the best start with the Bears, but he’s finally starting to get into a rhythm and he has a favorable matchup against the Rams’ weak pass defense.
The Cowboys haven’t been playing well on offense lately, but Dak Prescott’s history against the Giants is positive and he still put up big points late in the game last week. He has several receivers he can throw to and they should be relying on that considering their weak run game.
Potential waiver wire pickups: Sam Darnold (Vikings), Justin Fields (Steelers), Geno Smith (Seahawks), Andy Dalton (Panthers)
Wide Receivers
- Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals
- Terry McLaurin, Washington Commanders
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Seattle Seahawks
Tee Higgins is back from injury and though his Week 3 game in the Bengals’ loss to the Commanders was uneventful, he should play a bigger role when they face the Panthers this weekend now that he’s back to form.
Terry McLaurin and the Commanders will be up against the Cardinals’ rocky pass defense. Last week, he had 100 receiving yards and a 55-yard touchdown catch.

The Seahawks will face the Lions this week, who have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers. Jaxon Smith-Njigba may see more targets from Geno Smith against a vulnerable Lions pass defense.
Potential waiver wire pickups: Jauan Jennings (49ers), Tutu Atwell (Rams), Mike Williams (Jets)
Running. Backs
- Chuba Hubbard, Carolina Panthers
- Tony Pollard, Tennessee Titans
- Zack Moss, Cincinnati Bengals
Andy Dalton led the Panthers to their first win last week and the offense finally got going. Chuba Hubbard ran for 114 yards and caught five passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. He’s up against a Bengals’ weak run defense that is 23rd in rushing yards allowed to running backs this season.
Tony Pollard gets one more chance against the Dolphins this week, who have so far allowed five rushing touchdowns to running backs over the first three weeks. The Titans are looking for their first win and getting the ball to Pollard to run it could be key to that.
The Bengals will also be looking for their first win of the season and Zack Moss has emerged as the clear leading running back for them. He had his best game last week against the Commanders, rushing 12 times for 58 yards and a touchdown plus catching five passes on six targets for 39 more yards.

Potential waiver wire pickups: Justice Hill (Ravens), Alexander Mattison (Raiders)
Tight Ends
- Cole Kmet, Chicago Bears
- Tyker Conklin, New York Jets
- Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers
There aren’t a lot of options at tight end for fantasy managers right now, but Bears TE Cole Kmet caught 10 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown in Week 3, so he is worth a shot as they face the Rams at home in Week 4.

Aaron Rodgers has built the confidence with Tyler Conklin, who finished with five catches for 93 yards in the Jets’ win over the Patriots on Thursday. He’ll likely continue to see targets when they face the Broncos this week.
The Steelers face the Colts this week and they gave up 25.7 points to the Bears’ tight end last week. Pat Freiermuth has logged at least four catches in all three of his starts and could see more yards against Indy on Sunday.
