Update:

As the old saying goes, ‘When it rains it pours’ and that appears to be the case in the Bay Area has the team now faces multiple injuries across the roster and as is the way in such situations, the absentees are in fact key players.

Javon Hargrave’s season is over

It’s now clear that the 49ers are facing a serious problem. With Deebo Samuel already out, Christian McCaffrey off to Germany to see a specialist, and Brock Purdy on day-to-day status, the last thing the team needed was another injury. Unfortunately, as of Monday that now seems to be the case. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter defensive tackle, Javon Hargrave is expected to be sidelined for the remainder of the season. Regarding the details, Hargrave suffered a partial tear of his triceps during the 49ers’ 27–24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

Needless to say, this comes as a major blow to the team when considering the above-mentioned context. For his part, Hargrave has played in all three of the Niners’ games for the season so far and managed to register three tackles and a sack this past weekend. In total, the 31-year-old has notched seven tackles, one sack, and one tackle for loss on the year. Now in his second season with the 49ers, Hargrave comes from a 2023 campaign in which he started 16 games.

Ultimately, the team will now have no choice but to look for cover which will likely result in Jordan Elliot being called upon to provide it. A former third-round pick in 2020, Elliot has seen a sprinkling of minutes in all three of the Niners’ games for the 2024 season - his first with the franchise since spending four years with the Cleveland Browns. As for what comes next, the 49ers now sit on a record of 1-2 and face a Week 4 dance with the New England Patriots and that’s a contest the reigning NFC champions can’t afford to lose regardless of injuries.
