Who will start at QB for the Giants? Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito recovering from injuries
The New York Giants have had a horrible time keeping their quarterbacks healthy this season and look to bring stability to the position.
The New York Giants' quarterback situation has been a revolving door this season, with injuries and inconsistent performances leading to frequent changes under center. After releasing Daniel Jones post-bye week, the team has struggled to find stability at the quarterback position.
Drew Lock, who missed the previous game due to a left heel injury, is set to return as the starting quarterback for the Giants in their upcoming matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Lock’s return, expressing confidence in his recovery and readiness to lead the offense.
Lock’s season has been challenging, with a completion rate of 51.1%, accumulating 414 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions over five games. Despite these struggles, the Giants are hopeful that his return can provide the spark needed to end their nine-game losing streak.
Tommy DeVito, who started the previous game against the Baltimore Ravens, sustained a concussion late in the first half and remains in the concussion protocol. If he clears the protocol, he is expected to serve as the backup quarterback against the Falcons.
The Giants' offensive lineup has seen significant shuffling due to these injuries. Tim Boyle, recently signed, took snaps in the second half against the Ravens and has been alternating between the practice squad and active roster. The team has also been dealing with other injuries, including to wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson and running back Devin Singletary, further complicating their offensive strategies.
The upcoming game against the Falcons presents an opportunity for the Giants to assess their quarterback situation further. The Falcons have also made a quarterback change, starting rookie Michael Penix Jr. in place of veteran Kirk Cousins. This decision adds an intriguing layer to the matchup, as both teams navigate quarterback transitions.
As the Giants prepare for Sunday’s game, the focus remains on getting all quarterbacks ready to play. Coach Daboll emphasized the importance of preparation, stating, “The three of those guys work hard. Try to take in the game plan. Go out there and practice. So, they all got to be ready.”
With the season winding down and the Giants looking to evaluate their roster for the future, the performance of Drew Lock and the health of Tommy DeVito will be critical factors in the team’s decision-making process moving forward.
