With the return of Cooper Kupp, the Rams’ first offensive star from the injured list, Van Jefferson, a wide receiver for the team, became “surplus.” The absence of the 31-year-old at the start of the season allowed rookies Puka Nakua and Tutu Atwell to prove themselves and take over the role of the primary and then the secondary option from Jefferson.

After Kupp’s return, Nakua remained the starter on the other side of the field, while Jefferson was entirely out of the rotation. So far, Puka has recorded 46 catches for 572 yards and two touchdowns.

In yesterday’s trade, the Rams sent Jefferson to the Falcons for a sixth-round pick in the 2025 draft. The Falcons will also receive a seventh-round pick and the wide receiver.

Jefferson was on the field in the last game for only two plays, and quarterback Matthew Stafford never passed to him. Now, he will join wide receivers Drake London and Mack Hollins in the offense led by Desmond Reeder. Tight ends Kyle Pitts and John Smith are expected to play a significant role in Falcons passing game.

Van Jefferson’s best season was in 2021/22 when he caught 50 passes for 802 yards and six touchdowns. With the Falcons, he’ll have the opportunity to prove himself and contribute to the team as he did in his best season with the Rams.

The Atlanta football team currently has a record of 3 wins and 2 losses. They are scheduled to play against the Washington Commanders in their upcoming game, which will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium next week.
