Why could Carson Wentz be the ideal solution for the Chiefs as a Patrick Mahomes substitute?

It has been a while since the former second pick in the draft and Supr Bowl LII champion has had the status of a starter in the league, specifically in the last two seasons. In such a case, the best option may be to become a backup to the best quarterback in the league, Patrick Mahomes. Carson Wentz has taken this path and joined the Kansas City Chiefs, thus starting a new page in his career. Late Monday night, the Kansas City Chiefs and Wentz agreed to a one-year deal, which a league source has confirmed.

As an eight-year veteran, Wentz now has a chance to help the Chiefs, a team seeking to become the NFL’s first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls. He can hardly hope for more games than the previous season with the Rams, where he played only two, one of which he started. That‘s why this might be the best way for him to jump-start his career once again, and the Chiefs can see and enjoy the benefit of it.

His style of play is very similar to Mahomes’s, and given their close stat comparison, Wentz can be a safe bet in case something happens to Pat. Their close MVP battle, which finally went to Lamar, is also worth mentioning, in which Carson had better numbers (just 6 yards and 1 TD in difference).

He played in the NFL for Philadelphia for five seasons, beginning his career there. During the 2017/18 season, he led the Eagles to an impressive 11-2 record, earning them first place in the NFC in many of those games. Unfortunately, he suffered a severe injury, which led to Nick Foles taking over and ultimately leading the team to a Super Bowl victory.

In 2019, Wentz achieved his only 4,000-yard passing season. However, starting in 2021, he began switching teams annually, playing for Indianapolis, Washington, and the Los Angeles Rams.
