The NFC South does not have a clear candidate to win the division, and that is why the Atlanta Falcons are putting together a roster worthy of contention for the division crown.

One day, after adding linebacker Matthew Judon via trade with the New England Patriots, the Falcons added safety Justin Simmons to a one-year deal. According to NFL Network, the former Denver Broncos player’s salary will be $8 million, of which $7.5 million is guaranteed.

Simmons is a nine-year veteran who has amassed 604 tackles, 64 passes defensed, 30 interceptions and 4.5 sacks. He is also a four-time second-team All-Pro and has two Pro Bowl invitations.

Simmons will be the starting safety

With Jessie Bates, a standout safety known for his excellent coverage and ball-hawking skills, and the former Broncos player, whose veteran leadership and physicality make him a force in the defensive backfield, the Dirty Birds’ secondary is poised to strike fear into opposing offenses.

Simmons’ recent addition to the Atlanta roster, followed by his rapid ascension to a starting role, comes at a crucial time when the Falcons are dealing with DeMarcco Hellams’s injury-related absence.

Simmons, is a versatile player with a knack for making game-changing plays, quickly proved himself and earned a starting role just days after joining the team. His journey to the starting lineup mirrored his rise last season when he showcased his exceptional abilities on special teams, eventually earning him a starting role in the final games of the campaign.
