Why isn’t Brock Purdy playing for the 49ers against the Packers in week 12? When will he be back?
The Niners' starting QB was limited in the team’s midweek practices. Kyle Shanahan has a number of players on the injury list.
Brock Purdy underwent an MRI scan on his injured right shoulder last week but the results of those tests are nothing particularly worrying, according to 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.
“I don’t want to say there’s long-term concern. We got the MRI on Monday. We thought he just needed some rest. We really weren’t concerned about him not being good this week but when he started off Thursday, it surprised him, it surprised us how it felt so we had to shut him down,” Shanahan told reporters in Friday’s press conference.

The coach added that the MRI didn’t show anything of great concern but concluded, “He should be all right but by they way he responded this week it’s really up in the air for next week so we’ll have to see on Monday”.
The quarterback threw 4,280 yards last season - a franchise record. This season, he has 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
Who else is out for the 49ers?
Purdy is one of four 49ers players who are listed as out and will miss Sunday’s game at Green Bay. Kevin Givens (groin) and Mitch Wishnowsky (back) also miss out as does Charvarius Ward, who is rested for personal issues.
Trent Williams (ankle/rest) did not participate in practice at all last week and is listed as questionable. As are George Kittle (hamstring) Nick Bosa (hip), Jon Feliciano (knee) and Aaron Banks (thigh), who were all limited in Friday’s session.
Shanahan will be looking to Brandon Allen and Josh Dobbs in Purdy’s absence.
The NFL Week 12 game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers takes place on Sunday November 24, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 p.m. PT.
The 49ers head into the game 5-5 after losing 20-17 to the Seahawks last Sunday - a result which leaves them bottom of the NFC West, 10th overall in the National Football Conference and out of the playoff picture.
The Packers are 7-3 and well placed for a playoff spot, having edged their game against the Bears 20-19 last time out - their fourth straight road win. Currently third in the NFC North, the Packers would be the NFC’s No. 6 playoff seed as it stands.
