Injured running back Christian McCaffrey was sidelined in the San Francisco 49ers game against the Los Angeles Rams in NFL Week 3.

Indeed, the 28-year-old - who is yet to appear for the 49ers this season - will be unable to play for the 49ers until at least mid-October.

When will McCaffrey be back from injury?

As he continues his recovery from Achilles tendinitis, McCaffrey was placed on the franchise’s injured reserve list (IR) ahead of their Week 2 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday.

Under NFL rules, players must remain on the IR for a minimum of four games, so the earliest McCaffrey could return to action is the 49ers’ Week 6 match-up with the Seattle Seahawks on October 10.

Speaking after San Francisco’s loss to the Vikings last weekend, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan conceded that “nobody knows” when McCaffrey will be able to make his comeback. “We’re dealing with tendinitis so, not one person knows,” Shanahan told reporters, per ESPN. “He doesn’t know. We don’t know and [we will] take it day by day.”

What other players are injured for San Francisco?

The 49ers were also without wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle against the Rams. Samuel picked up a calf injury against the Vikings, while Kittle has also been ruled out after suffering a hamstring issue during the team’s preparations for the trip to LA. In addition, defensive end Nick Bosa (rib) was questionable, as was cornerback Charvarius Ward (hamstring, knee).

“[Kittle] and Charvarius were sore after practice [on Wednesday], like a number of guys are, and they came in Thursday morning and were still sore, and still today with Kittle,” Shanahan said on Friday, adding: “[Bosa] hurt his rib in practice, [in a] one-on-one drill.”
