Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is being tipped to play for the San Francisco 49ers against the New England Patriots today, after recovering from injury slightly ahead of schedule.

Samuel “feeling pretty good” after injury layoff

Samuel missed the 49ers’ Week 3 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday, having picked up a calf strain in the Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings seven days earlier.

Speaking to reporters the day after the Vikings game, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he expected the WR to be on the sidelines for “a couple of weeks”; however, the 28-year-old was back in practice on Thursday.

Asked about his early return to fitness, Samuel told reporters on Friday (per 49erswebzone): “I mean, that [a two-week absence] is what the case was. But I came back feeling pretty good, and we went to practice the past two days still feeling good, so we’ll just see how it goes.”

On the 49ers’ official injury report, Samuel has been listed as questionable for this weekend’s Patriots clash. ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter has reported that the former South Carolina Gamecocks star is expected to play.
