Why isn’t Ed Oliver playing for the Bills against the Jets? MNF Week 6 injury status

The Bills will be looking to address their recent poor run of results when they face the Jets at the MetLife Stadium on Monday.

Following a bright start to the new season with three wins from the three opening games, the wheels have come off slightly for Buffalo (3-2) following successive Week 4 and 5 defeats at the hands of the Ravens and Texans although Sean McDermott’s team still top the AFC East standings.

All seemed rosy in Highmark Stadium for the first three weeks of the season as Josh Allen and the Bills rolled through their opponents while scoring the most points of any team over that span. The trouble came when the schedule started to get tough, and the Bills were quickly handed a dose of reality by the Ravens who ran out 35-10 winners.

The Texans were on the verge of doing the same, but the Bills made it a game in the second half of Sunday’s showdown from NRG Stadium. Some poor clock management handed the game to Houston and the Bills suffered their second straight loss.

Both teams will be looking for a rebound at the MetLife Stadium on Monday night with the Jets (2-3) also seeing a slight dip in form despite a bright start too with the New Yorkers hoping to see a ‘new coach bounce’ with Jeff Ulbrich drafted in to replace Robert Saleh who was dismissed from his post last week following the loss in London at the hands of the Vikings.

Bad news for Bills

It’s bad news for Bills’ fans hoping to see a return to action for Ed Oliver after head coach Sean McDermott has confirmed that the DT will not be involved in the Monday night game at the Jets. This will be Oliver’s second consecutive game missed due to injury after he sustained a hamstring injury in the defeat to the Ravens.

McDermott said that WR Khalil Shakir (ankle), RB James Cook (foot/toe), CB Taron Johnson (forearm) and DT Austin Johnson (oblique) are all listed as questionable for Monday’s game.

“We’ll just see how it goes today at practice,” McDermott said of their status over the weekend.

As for Oliver’s case, McDermott doesn’t think the team will need to place the DT on injured reserve and is hopeful that the player may be back for the Week 7 clash against Tennessee.

“I don’t think that he will go on the injured reserve list, I think he’s trending in the right direction,” McDermott said. “I’m hopeful for next week, we’ll just have to see.”
