COWBOYS
Why isn't Ezekiel Elliott playing for the Cowboys vs Falcons? What did he do?
Running back Ezekiel Elliott is out for today’s game against the Falcons, and no, it’s not due to his incredibly underwhelming performance this season.
It‘s not exactly a tragedy that Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is out for today’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. At this point, whether it‘s Zeke, Rico Dowdle, or Dalvin Cook, it doesn’t make much of a difference as none of their RBs are putting up significant yardage and Cook and Zeke so far look like the same player in terms of production.
But the reason Zeke is sitting this one out isn’t due to his poor play.
The reason Ezekiel Elliott is not playing vs Falcons
It was initially reported early Sunday morning that Elliott would miss the game against the Falcons for “disciplinary reasons”. Now, the details have finally come out.
Apparently, Zeke has been consistently late and missed several meetings, including one on Friday.
Zeke did not travel with the team to Georgia for the game.
Elliott was brought back to the Cowboys by Jerry Jones, in a move that had everyone scratching their heads. Dallas lost their RB1 in the offseason when Tony Pollard went to Tennessee in free agency and rather than replace him with a top free agent (Derrick Henry...) or someone in the draft, Jones chose to bring Zeke back despite the fact that he wasn’t even the RB1 in New England last season.
It was a move that no one but he and the Cowboys front office seemed to believe in and one that’s turned out to be a complete flop.
Zeke has just 149 yards on the ground and a career-low 3.1 yards per carry this season. Despite this, he actually complained about being underutilized, to which Jones responded that he was “saving him” for later this season.
Well...look how that’s turned out.
