The San Francisco 49ers head into today’s Week 16 game against the Miami Dolphins with a number of players absent through injury.

Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk are carrying long-term injuries which will keep them out until the New Year and Kyle Shanahan has another five players on the casualty list ahead of the Dolphins game - two definitely ruled out and three listed as questionable.

What injury has Isaac Guerendo suffered?

Rookie running back Isaac Guerendo did not participate in any of last week’s practices. He had been struggling to shake off a foot sprain which made him a doubt for the Niners' last game, against the Rams. He ended up playing but suffered a hamstring injury which has left him unable to train.

Opportunity for Patrick Taylor

with Guerendo ruled out, Shanahan will likely turn to Patrick Taylor as his starting RB. With Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Israel Abanikanda as his only other options, the coach confirmed that Taylor would most likely start against Miami.

“He’s been here since training camp, he’s done a real good job for us - played in this league before, has experience at Green Bay and when he’s had opportunities with us, he’s ran the ball well so, and when he hasn’t ran the ball, he’s helped us on special teams. Big opportunity for him and glad we’ve got him,” Shanahan said of Taylor in Friday’s press conference.

Trent Williams (ankle) is also ruled out of the Dolphins game. Nick Bosa (hip/oblique), Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) and Robert Beal Jr (ankle) are all listed as questionable

San Francisco 49ers go into the game with a 6-8 record and occupying last place in the NFC West with their chances of making the playoffs dwindling. Miami are also 6-8, second in the AFC East and with few options to log one of the last two playoff berths in the conference.

The 2024 NFL regular season game between the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers will take place at Hard Rock stadium in Miami, Florida on Sunday 22 December 2024, with kick off scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET / 1:25 p.m. PT.

Viewers in the US can watch the action live on CBS. If you don’t have cable, you can stream CBS’s coverage on the online service fubo, which offers a free trial. Hulu, Paramount+ and NFL+ will also be streaming the game.
