Why isn’t Ja’Marr Chase playing for the Bengals against the Patriots in Week 12?

Update:

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor says his team must “move forward” after their appeal to get Ja’Marr Chase’s one-game suspension overturned was rejected by the NFL.

Ja’Marr Chase punished for spitting

Chase will miss Sunday’s Week 12 game against the New England Patriots. The receiver was suspended by league’s Disciplinary Committee for spitting at Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey in last week’s 33-31 home defeat.

The NFL wasted little time in punishing Chase. The Bengals star was disciplined under league rules banning “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.” The player was hit with a one-game unpaid suspension, which means he misses out on $448,333 in base salary plus a $58,823 per game active bonus.

The Bengals appealed the decision but were unsuccessful in getting the decision overturned. It follows a similar case earlier this season when Eagles DL Jalen Carter was handed the same punishment for spitting at Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

“We gave him everything we had. They upheld the suspension, so as a team we’ve just to move forward,” Taylor told reporters. “We still support Ja’Marr but we have to focus on New England now and look forward to getting Ja’Marr back next Monday.”

Bengals without a win since Week 7

Losing Chase is a huge blow for the Bengals, who are currently 3-7 and without a win in three games. This season, Chase has 861 receiving yards on 79 catches with five touchdowns in 10 games. This will be the sixth game Chase has missed since his Rookie season with the Bengals in 2021.
