Why isn’t Jauan Jennings playing for the 49ers against the Chiefs in Week 7?

The Niners will be without their backup WR, who has yet to recover from an injury picked up in last week’s game against the Seahawks.

The San Francisco 49ers (3-3) face their toughest test of the campaign so far as the Kansas City Chiefs, one of just two teams who remain unbeaten, visit Levi’s Stadium on Sunday.

The Niners head into the game on the back of last week’s 36-24 win in Seattle while the Chiefs are 5-0 with the Ravens, the Bengals, the Falcons, the Chargers and the Saints as their victims so far this season. Patrick Mahones and Co, have also had more time to rest as Kansas City were one of four teams given a bye in Week 6.

Pearsall activated

Rookie Ricky Pearsall missed the first six games of the 2024 NFL season after being shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in late August. After a miraculous recovery, the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver has been activated from the Reserve/Non-Football Injury list and is expected to make his debut on Sunday.

That news will come as a relief to head coach Kyle Shanahan who is unable to count on backup WR Jauan Jennings for the game. Jennings suffered a hip injury in last week’s game against the Seahawks and was uable to take part in any of the team’s practice sessions. There is a chance he could also miss next week’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.

This season, Jennings has played six games in which he has caught 25 passes for 404 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Deebo Samuel, who had limited participation in practice on Wednesday and Thursday due to discomfort to his wrist, has been cleared to play with Brandon Aiyuk as Shanahan’s other available WR.

Elsewhere, Darrell Luter Jr (pelvis) and Kevin Givens (groin) are both listed as questionable. Jake Moody is ruled out with an ankle injury

The 2024 NFL regular season Week 7 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers takes place on Sunday October 20, 2024, at Levi’s Stadium in California. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 p.m. PT.
