Why isn’t Tanner McKee playing for the Eagles against the Cowboys?
Nick Sirianni has just one absentee as the the Eagles begin their title defense.

The Eagles begin their NFL title defense at home to the Dallas Cowboys - two teams who enjoyed very different fortunes the last time out. While Philly made it to Super Bowl LIX and denied the Chiefs an historic three-peat, Dallas scraped through to third in the NFC East, 11th in the Conference standings, failing to make it to the postseason. Mike McCarthy made way for Brian Schottenheimer, who was promoted to head coach in January.
Eagles with the edge
The Eagles comfortably won both of their encounters with the Cowboys last season, a 6–34 win in Dallas in Week 5 and a 7–41 victory at home in the penultimate game.
In the preseason, the Eagles finished 2-1 - the team’s only loss was to the Browns (22-13), between victories over the Jets (19-17) and the Bengals (34-27).
McKee laid low
Head coach Nick Sirianni has almost a fully fit roster for Thursday’s regular season opener against Dallas. Just one player won’t be suiting up - QB2 Tanner McKee suffered a fracture to his right thumb in practice and is expected to be out for a couple of weeks.
The NFL Week 1 matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys will be played on Thursday 3 September at Lincoln Financial Field and scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
