Why isn’t Trevor Lawrence playing for the Jaguars against the Vikings on Week 10?
Quarterback Lawrence misses only his second ever NFL game after being drafted first overall by the Jaguars in 2021.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have endured a challenging start to the 2024 NFL season and that is expected to continue in Sunday’s Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings, in which they are set to be without quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Since being drafted by the Jaguars as the first overall pick in 2021, this will be just the second NFL game ever missed by Lawrence, who previously sat out the Week 17 win over the Carolina Panthers in the 2023 season.
How long will Trevor Lawrence be out for? Which games could he miss?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Tennessee native, who had previously been listed as questionable, won’t face the Vikings due to a left shoulder injury sustained in the first half of last weekend’s defeat to the Philadelphia Eagles. How long Lawrence will be out for is unclear at present, which may leave the Jaguars with something of a conundrum.
After facing the Detroit Lions next week (week 11), Jacksonville have a bye in Week 12, which means they could opt to sit their quarterback out in Michigan to ensure he has fully recovered by the time they play against the Houston Texans (December 1) in Week 13.
On the flip side, wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis, who were also listed as questionable, are likely to be fit to play against Minnesota.
The Jaguars are bottom of AFC South after a 2-7 start to the season, although both of their victories have come in Jacksonville. That will offer them some hope against the Vikings, whose 6-2 record has them in second place in NFC North.
