Why Meghan Trainor says working With Patrick Mahomes felt “magical”
Singer Meghan Trainor is making a pivot into acting, starting with a State Farm commercial alongside Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Meghan Trainor is adding a new chapter to her career - acting. And she’s calling her first commercial gig alongside Patrick Mahomes “a blessing and a miracle.”
Meeting Mahomes sparked a new dream for Trainor
The pop star teamed up with the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback and “Jake from State Farm” in a new ad campaign, an experience she admitted left her nervous but quickly became “magical” thanks to Mahomes’ laid-back personality.
“They told me you got an offer to be in a State Farm commercial, and I was like ‘You’re lying, you’re lying to me,’ and then I was like, ‘How could that possibly make sense, like what do you mean,’ and they’re like ‘With Patrick Mahomes,’ and I was like ‘Now I’m very confused’ and then, and they sent me the script, and I was freaking out because it’s so brilliant and perfect,” said Trainor.
“I was in a bubble dress, and I was just like, ‘Hello, I’m the pop girl.’ So I felt very random and out of place, but they made me feel so comfortable immediately,” she said. “Gosh, everyone was so nice on set. Jake from State Farm, just a delight. Patrick was the most chillest, coolest guy ever. And I was making him giggle all day and I felt like an absolute star. It was so magical and big and huge. And I’m like, this is the top. This is the top of commercials. Here we are, we’ve made it.”
Trainor joked her brothers were even more thrilled about the project than her Grammy-winning music career, since she grew up playing football with them.
The singer also revealed that the commercial reignited her long-held dream of acting, something her husband, “Spy Kids” star Daryl Sabara, began as a child. Trainor says balancing her career with family life can be a challenge, but she loves sharing travel and special moments - like meeting Mahomes - with her kids.
