Why was Kansas City Chiefs tackle Isaiah Buggs arrested in Alabama?
The 27-year-old only joined the team in January but has already been arrested twice, one of a number of Chiefs players facing legal issues.
Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has turned himself in to law enforcement for the second time in a month over the weekend, charged with domestic violence and burglary offenses.
Buggs was arrested in Alabama on Sunday morning and released on a $5,000 bond, court records show. Just two weeks earlier he was charged with two misdemeanours for second-degree animal cruelty. Two of Buggs’ dog were found to be severely malnourished, one had to be euthanised.
The player’s agent, however, is claiming that the 27-year-old is the focus of a “subversive campaign” to force him to close his hookah bar in Tuscaloosa. He added that his client “vehemently denies” the allegations, denying that the dogs belonged to him.
Kansas City Chiefs face off-season legal issues
The Chiefs have not yet commented publicly on Buggs’ latest legal troubles and the team’s PR departure has had a tricky time over the off-season. Incredible, Buggs is the fourth Chiefs player to be arrested since the team clinched the Super Bowl back in February.
Most noticeably, wide receiver Rashee Rice has been charged with eight felonies in relation to a high-speed collision in Dallas that sparked a six-vehicle crash. Rice was later involved in an alleged assault at a nightclub in Dallas last month.
“Obviously, that was a big mistake,” Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said of Rice’s troubles last month. “But you have to learn from it, make sure it doesn’t happen again and try to do whatever you can to be the best person you can be in society, not only for yourself but for the people around you. And I think he is doing that.”
Chiefs offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Wanya Morris complete the quartet after they were arrested in Johnson County, Kansas on drug charges. Both players were charged with misdemeanour possession of marijuana and were booked into jail last month, before being released on a $2,500 bond.
