Update:

The Super Bowl can be a career defining night for players who are lucky enough to get there. A lot of players cement their legacy in the biggest game of their career, while some fail to live up to the grandeur of the moment.

Pats punished in Super Bowl LX

Unfortunately for the New England Patriots, there weren’t a whole lot of people that were ready for the moment from Levi’s Stadium Sunday night. One of the main scapegoats for the loss to the Seahawks has been rookie left tackle Will Campbell, who was in charge of protecting Drake Maye´s blindside all season.

It’s not fair for him to get all the blame, because no one had a particularly good night on the offensive end. The running game had just 71 total yards, and Drake Maye fumbled, threw two interception and had one of those taken to the house.

On top of that he was pressured all night and was sacked a Super Bowl record tying six times. He was under a bombardment from the Seahawks defensive line, and a lot of those pressures were coming from the left side of the offensive line that Campbell was supposed to be protecting.

Campbell declines postgame interview

In the aftermath of the game, plenty of people are having a go at the young left tackle. Doubts are suddenly being cast after a game that saw him allow 14 quarterback pressures, one sack and commit a penalty. Some of the critics are going back to his first words as a New England Patriot last spring.

An emotional Campbell took the stage after being taken fourth overall out of LSU. He came on the stage, fighting back tears and talked about his journey that landed him in New England. When asked what tone he’ll set on the line, he responded “I’m going to fight and die to protect him with everything I’ve got.”

After Super Bowl LX, Campbell declined to talk to the media. The Patriots drafted Campbell and went into to free agency with one goal: protecting their quarterback. Maye had a fantastic sophomore season but he was sacked 47 times which was the fourth most in the league.
