Will David Njoku play for the Browns against the Bengals? NFL injury update
The Browns’ starting tight end, who picked up a muscular injury against the Steelers in Week 14, returned to practice on Friday.
For the Cleveland Browns, the next few weeks will be about salvaging what they can from a disappointing season. Kevin Stefanski’s team head into Week 16 having won just three games since the campaign started - only the Giants and the Raiders have worse records.
Of their three remaining games, only one, next week’s matchup against the Dolphins is at home. Before that, a road trip to Cincinnati (6-8), the team that sits just above them in the AFC North and whose chances of making the playoffs are dwindling.
What injury did David Njoku suffer in Week 14?
Tight end David Njoku suffered a hamstring injury against the Steelers in Week 14. He only returned to practice on Friday and was limited. As it stands, his status is classified as ‘questionable’ which means he has a 50-50 chance of being declared fit to face the Bengals.
This season, Njoku has 439 yards and five touchdowns on 56 catches.
Elsewhere, defensive tackle Shelby Harris is still out with an elbow injury and did not practice all week.
Martin Emerson (concussion), Myles Garrett (back), Cedric Tillman (concussion) and Jameis Winston (shoulder) were all limited on Friday and like Njoku, are questionable.
Browns must “go to school” on the Chiefs
In yesterday’s press conference, Stefanski said Wednesday that both players will be monitored in the days leading up to the game. “Good week of practice, good to be outside - energy, juice... the guys are really competing hard so gotta go on the road, play well as a team to find a way to win versus a good football team so that’s our focus”.
The coach added that he is hopeful that both Martin Emerson and Cedric Tillman will be cleared from protocol. “They’re in the appropriate place in that protocol. You just have to follow each step and we’re hopeful on both guys”.
The NFL Week 16 regular season game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns takes place on Sunday December 22, 2024, at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET/10:00 a.m. PT.
