Alarm bells started ringing for the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 of the 2024 season when quarterback Jordan Love suffered an injury in the 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the first ever NFL game held in Brazil.

What injury does Jordan Love have? When will he return?

Initial reports suggested the quarterback would miss three to four weeks due to a sprained medial collateral ligament (MC), which runs from the inside surface of the upper shin bone to the inner surface of the bottom thigh bone, keeping the shine bone in place.

However, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is now confident the 25-year-old will be back much earlier than initially anticipated, and hasn’t completely ruled him out of playing against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday (September 15, kickoff at 1pm ET).

Who will be the Packers’ starting quarterback against the Colts?

“I’d say we got pretty good news,” LaFleur told the Packers’ media team. “We got lucky that it wasn’t more serious. Certainly that injury looked pretty gruesome on TV and in person. It was a scary moment for us but I’d say it’s more day to day than anything.

“He’s going to continue doing everything he can to get back on the field as soon as possible. We’ve got great resources around here, but, in the meantime, if he’s not ready to go, Malik Willis will be able to be the guy”.

With Love having not yet been cleared to play by a doctor, Willis looks likely to be Green Bay’s starting quarterback against the Colts.

Jordan Love’s breakthrough 2023 season

After the legendary Aaron Rodgers left the Packers for the New York Jets in 2023, Love took over as starting quarterback last year and had a breakout season, throwing for over 4,500 yards and scoring 37 touchdowns, including in two postseason games.
