Update:

Netflix have revealed that Mariah Carey has signed up for NFL on Christmas Day, with the ‘Queen of Christmas’ to perform “All I Want for Christmas Is You” (what else was she going to sing?) before the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Pittsburgh Steelers, which kicks off the two-game programme on December 25.

Carey’s NFL Christmas performance to be prerecorded for Netflix

However, for those who are simultaneously Steelers and Carey fans, don’t get your hopes up too high, the 55-year-old won’t be belting out her Christmas classic at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh in person (unless something changes). Double disappointment for residents of the Steel City after she was forced to cancel a concert on December 11 due to the flu.

“Fresh off of her largest and most spectacular Christmas tour to date, Carey is set to dazzle fans this year with a taped performance of her record-breaking single, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’” reads a Netflix a media release on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the 1994 track reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for a 15th week. The ‘Queen of Christmas’ indeed.

To see, and hear, Carey on the big day herself, however, you’ll have to be watching the football action on Netflix rather than in the flesh.

The New York native does have previous with the NFL, singing the national anthem at Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002.

Beyoncé to perform at halftime in Ravens - Texans

Unlike Carey, another pop superstar will be spending her Christmas Day (or at least part of it) at an NFL stadium. Beyoncé, recently named Billboard’s Greatest Pop Star of the 21st century, will be belting out some of her best known tunes at halftime during the December 25 game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.

A Houston native, the former Destiny’s Child star will be hoping to inspire the Texans to a festive victory.
