Will Micah Parsons play for the Cowboys this season? NFL insider provides grim outlook

The contract standoff between the Dallas Cowboys and their star defensive end Micah Parsons continues as the season gets frighteningly closer.

Update:

Dallas Cowboys fans have been keeping it cool, not hitting the panic button just yet. Contract standoffs are par for the course and there’s still 17 days to go until the regular season starts. Last year, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb wasn’t paid until after the preseason was over and quarterback Dak Prescott not until the day before the regular season started.

So at first, despite the back-and-forth and even despite a trade request, fans were still pretty confident that a deal would get done with star edge rusher Micah Parsons. However, now, things are starting to look a bit more grim.

Micah Parsons standoff could drag into season

As the contract negotiations between the Cowboys and Parsons remain at a standstill, ESPN insider Adam Schefter warns that the situation has turned personal, which doesn’t bode well for the team. His outlook is quite negative as the season approaches.

“It is different. It’s gotten personal, and they’re no closer to a deal, and there’s no reason to think that the Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons will be able to work out a deal before the start of the regular season,” Schefter said.

“Now, again, it’s August 18th, and sides always could come together. But we want to emphasize - there have been zero, zero contract negotiations since late March and early April. Is that going to change all of a sudden? I don’t think so.”

Despite Parsons previously expressing a desire to stay in Dallas, tensions with team ownership and his agent have raised the possibility of the stalemate continuing into the 2025 regular season. A resolution could still occur at the last minute, similar to Lamb’s and Prescott’s, but considering nothing has happened since early spring, it’s causing fans to start to sweat.

Parsons has said his dream destination if he doesn’t stay with the Cowboys would be Buffalo, saying the Bills are real Super Bowl contenders. There have also been rumors that the Green Bay Packers could be interested in making a trade for Parsons.
