Will Sam Darnold play for the Vikings against the Packers? NFL Week 4 injury status
After taking a hit to the knee, quarterback Darnold was forced off in Minnesota’s win over the Texans last week.
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold is expected to play against the Green Bay Packers today, despite suffering a knee issue in Week 3.
After briefly exiting last weekend’s 34-7 win over the Houston Texans, Darnold underwent an MRI scan on Monday that revealed no major damage to his knee.
“Really good news, positive news,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters this week, after what he described as “extensive evaluations”. O’Connell added that Darnold had no more than “bruising”.
According to Minnesota’s official injury report, the 27-year-old was able to take part in full practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Darnold and Vikings on hot streak
Darnold threw a joint-career-high four touchdown passes against the Texans, as the Vikings continued their 100% start to the 2024 regular season.
The former New York Jets, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers quarterback also threw for two touchdowns each in Minnesota’s victories over the New York Giants and the 49ers in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively.
A team chasing a return to the playoffs after missing out in 2023, the Vikings hadn’t won their first three games of the NFL regular season since 2016, when they began the campaign with a five-game victory streak.
